About our school

Get to know our school

Tacking Point Public School has been serving our community for over 25 years. With over 720 students, we focus on teaching the basics of reading, writing, and maths. We also offer choir, band, and drama groups for students interested in performing arts.

Our school has a great track record in sports, with many students competing at the state level. We prioritise student welfare with a sound discipline code and a range of programs to support students with special needs. Our active Parent and Citizens Association (P&C), the canteen committee, volunteers, and local businesses form a strong support network.

Our school logo symbolises our community's maritime heritage. The lighthouse, a significant landmark, represents guidance and a reminder of our past. Our motto, 'Lighting the way,' embodies the lighthouse's role as a guide and protector for our students and community.

Tacking Point, where the lighthouse stands, was named in 1802 by Matthew Flinders. It's a few miles south of the river mouth, and as Flinders sailed his ship 'Investigator' close to the headland, he tacked and headed south again.
