Wellbeing

At our school, student wellbeing and learning go hand in hand. We want every student to feel safe, included and ready to learn. Whether your child needs help with their mental, emotional, social or physical wellbeing, we are here to help them thrive at school and in daily life.

How we support student wellbeing

Supporting each student’s mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing is part of everyday school life.

We do this through:

"Do the High Five"

We are committed to the ‘Do the High Five’ strategy to promote problem solving and stop bullying behaviour. We explicitly teach that school is a safe place and being with our friends is an important part of the time we spend at school and at home. We reinforce and support students in knowing that positive friendships help us to grow and feel good about ourselves and that everyone has the right to feel safe and happy when they come to school.

Explicit teaching is taught around what is bullying and that it can come in many forms such as physical, verbal, social and online/cyber bullying. We use this language to help students identify behaviours which compliments the ‘High Five strategy’ in dealing with situations.

* When someone says or does something unintentionally hurtful and they do it once: ‘That’s rude!’

* When someone says or does something intentionally hurtful and do it once: “That’s mean!”

* When someone says or does something intentionally hurtful and they keep doing it even when you tell them to stop or show them that you’re upset: “That’s bullying!”

Parents with concerns about bullying should contact the school by phone or writing.

All bullying incidents will be taken seriously

The Resilience Project - "Have you practiced GEM this week"?

At Tacking Point Public School we use The Resilience Project to deliver emotionally engaging programs that provide practical, evidence-based mental health strategies to build resilience and happiness. Through, school curriculum and Wellbeing Journals, we share the benefits of Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness, and teach ways to practise these in everyday life.
