Tacking Point Public School instrumental music program has been in operation as long as the school has been in existence. The program has grown in numbers over the years with the school population all the while improving and developing the young students to a standard today that can be held in high regard amongst any musical company.
Although the school has a focus on literacy and numeracy, it is acknowledged that the arts do have a major influence over the effects upon the students, which has been corroborated by research. The results are very clear across the entire spectrum of the school programs.
The current instrumental program boasts in excess of 180 students in the program. Ensembles are the fundamental corner stone of the program and are driving force, enthusiasm and interest in the Instrumental program.
There are 3 concert bands, a string orchestra, a guitar ensemble, 2 rock bands, a jazz band and a number of class bands. The ensembles provide the opportunity for the students to perform in many different genres and styles. The Year 3 and Year 4 ensemble performs for the sister school in Korea.
The instrumental ensembles also promotes student participation in performances at the local eisteddfod, music festivals, community concerts and events such as the opening of the University of New South Wales (UNSW) regional medical centre and performances in Sydney at Darling Harbour, Maritime Museum and the NSW school band festival.
